Volgens Buisiness week kost de PS3 in de productie al de helft minder dan bij de lancering in 2006. Niet langer $800 maar $400 dollar voor een PS3 met 80 GB. Bron is Kota Ezawa van Nikko Citigroup, een grote groep die (onder andere) financiële analyses uitvoert in Japan. “We think the biggest factor here is that simplification has become possible through a reduction in the parts count, leading to a reduction in costs…” .
Eind dit jaar ( 2008 ) zou Sony met de PS3 al uit de verliessituatie kunnen geraken. Maar verwacht nu niet dat Sony de winkelprijs ook zal halveren.
